No experience with USB wireless, but I found this a while back looking for pci comapable cards. They list USB as well

I have a TP-LINK TL-WN321G USB wireless “stick”. I use it on my Feisty desktop with the rt73 drivers from http://rt2×00.serialmonkey.com/ - these may be in Gutsy by default, I’m not sure. It’s all a bit manual (have to compile a kernel module, and getting WPA working requires some custom pre-up commands) but it’s worked flawlessly since I got it running.

    Hope this helps!

I have a Linksys WUSB i bought 2 years ago (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US/Layout&cid=1115416827517&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper) from maplin in England. Works relatively well it was well supported for wireless network cracking. It also uses the rt2×00 driver (rt70 it seems).

    I’ve been using a SMC EZ Connect g - model = SMCWUSB-G

It worked plug and play in gutsy, haven’t tested hardy yet. An iwlist scan directly after plugging it in displayed all networks and connecting was a breeze. I highly recommend using Wicd in conjunction with this stick, its a sweet tool. Good luck!
