Great news!

There might be a Storage Engine summit? That would be awesome. I would love to submit a talk for it.

Baron -- great news for the folks who can still benefit from Percona's workshops, as well as actually sit down and have a conversation with some Percona folks during the conference!

Percona made their conference last year because they didn't play nicely with MySQL/Sun. I would think that Percona and O'Reilly can play nicely (since the Percona principals have produced an O'Reilly book) and not conflict with the conference.

That being said, Thu-Fri would be a GREAT time for a Percona Conference, since the MySQL Conference is only a 1/2 day then, and Friday is nothing for the users.

Last year people said Friday wasn't good because "there's the storage engine summit!" Sure, but Percona's conference was touted to be for database users, not storage engine builders.....so Percona can send a few reps to the storage engine summit (if it happens) and have their performance conference on Thursday and Friday, thereby giving *maximum* value (with *minimum* conflict) to the MySQL Conference.

It doesn't make sense to have a conference benefiting database users when most of them are paying lots of money to go to the MySQL Conference. I had several complaints from people who couldn't go to the Percona conference -- their bosses were there with them and they wanted their money's worth, and wouldn't allow them to skip a MySQL Conference session for a Percona one.

Thursday/Friday benefits everyone. Here's hoping it gets moved.
