What do you know about Oracle’s InnoDB+ storage engine?
That’s right, I said InnoDB+, with a “plus” at the end. I didn’t know it existed until, while following some links from Monty’s appeal to save MySQL, I decided to read a Groklaw post that links to Eben Moglen’s letter to the EU Commission, which includes this text:
Innobase could therefore have provided an enhanced version of InnoDB, like Oracle’s current InnoDB+, under non-GPL license, …
I don’t know anything more. Do you?

Hmm. I was told that Falcon was a better InnoDB than InnoDB. Maybe I should believe everything I am told.

Speaking of Falcon: Anyone know what’s going on with it? I haven’t heard much about its progress lately. The mailing list looks like it hasn’t had any activity since the summer.

Yes they were. Sorry for being snarky — these are trying times. Embedded InnoDB is very nice. No one has done something clever with it yet but they will.

Mark, are you saying that Eben was talking about Embedded InnoDB when he wrote InnoDB+? It didn’t sound like it to me.

I have no idea. But it gives them a new path for monetizing InnoDB and they already know how to sell into the embedded space with BerkeleyDB.

Monty has posted a comment on Sheeri’s blog, which says in part,
“Oracle did work on a closed source version of InnoDB, codename InnoDB+, but they never released it, probably because our contract with them stopped them.”
