High Performance MySQL, Third Edition
I have just signed the contract for High Performance MySQL, Third Edition. The third edition will include major updates and new content in these areas:
- Recent performance and reliability advances, particularly in MySQL 5.5 and the InnoDB storage engine.
- A new chapter on using MySQL in cloud computing environments.
- Updates on modern hardware, including many CPUs, large memory, and solid-state storage.
- Improvements in clustering and high availability, including middleware and third-party solutions.
- Improvements in replication.
- New material on profiling MySQL, benchmarking, and tools and techniques to help you measure, monitor, and manage your MySQL installations.
The book will be available for purchase early next year. It’s been a great three years since the second edition was published, and although it’s selling strongly and is still referred to as “the” book for MySQL performance, it’s outdated and needs to be revised. And frankly I’ve learned a lot since 2008. The third edition will again be our best effort to give away everything we know, and help you help yourself as much as you can.

That’s great news. Looking forward to it!

Fantastic! My second edition is dog eared, filled with notes, and needs replacement.

Alitrix, there are a lot of variables. Last time the process was unpredictable in some ways I didn’t anticipate. We are planning on it being on bookstore shelves in the first half of the year.

I hope for the ebook edition. Paper books take too much space in my house and I stopped buying them. Hopefully, your publisher also makes a ebook.

Good luck! Writing a book is always more work than you anticipate (or does it get easier upon repetition?) but the reward is in sharing your unique knowledge and points of view with a hungry audience.

Brilliant news indeed.. I have learnt a lot about MySQL Performance Tuning from your Second Edition…
What about including Kernel Tuning (Ubuntu, Red Hat etc…) with running of MySQL Server in OLTP or other applications… I am sure that there will be huge crowd need this topic for tuning.
Good Luck!!!

Are you planing on including the Tungsten Replicator to the 3rd edition? There’s quite few information online, a good introduction and comparision to the builtin replication would be really usefull.

A good introduction needs its own book. I will mention it but there will be no long explanations. There are hundreds of equally deserving topics that I also won’t have space and time to write about in detail.

Good luck on the book – please make sure it is in Kindle format (I have just bought a Kindle).
